Thought for the Week

Posted on April 4, 2010 under Thoughts for the Week.

Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.  It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed………………………….every morning a lion wakes up.  It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death.  It doesn’t matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle…………………………..when the sun comes up, you better be running.

 Sales Reminder 197

Want to become a better listener?  The next time you are in front of a client or prospect:

  • Concentrate on listening hard; ask questions and ‘shhhhhhh’
  • Interruptions can cost you the sales
  • When you do speak, think before you open your mouth
  • Use listening works (‘I see’, “i understand’) to show you are engaged
  • Maintain eye contact
  • Try to listen with as much objectivity as you can muster
  • Concentrate on listening hard (I know I already gave you this one, but it’s not as easy as it sounds; the tendency is to be thinking about how you are going to repond, versus really listening – another deal breaker)
  • Asking good questions will prove you were listening
  •  Final Thoughts

As a follow up to my March 28 posting, did anyone try going technology free (for even an hour) last week?   Did anyone put off answering emails (for even an hour) in order to concentrate on the things on your ‘to do’ list that were really  important (and were going to earn you additional commission dollars)?

Spending a couple of hours at the end of every week  to think and to plan (a PrintGrowPro BestPractice reminder) will increase your productivity immensely; but the practice has to become a habit.

Thanks for being here and remember:  laugh a lot (it’s healthy), once you start talking about losing you’ve lost, practice  being enthusiastic (all the time),  and finally, with baseball season right around the corner (Go Cardinals!!!!):  one thought driven home is better than three left on base.  Make it a great week and go out and sell something.
