Life 101

Have you ever tried meditation?

It’s certainly not one of my key skill sets, but meditation can give your brain a rest.  When it’s rested the endorphins flow better,  you will have more energy,  and function at a higher level.   There are lots of options out there:  yoga, hypnosis, relaxation tapes, affirmations, visualization or just ”hanging around” in complete silence.  Find something you enjoy and make the time to practice daily.

As always, thanks for being here, smile, breathe, and pay it forward.

As always, thanks for being here, do good, be nice, smile  and make eye contact (more often), listen (harder), never interrupt,  and pay it forward.

Attitude Adjusters

An excerpt from The Road to Happiness by Mac Anderson and BJ Gallagher

When I travel on business, I like to talk to the taxi drivers who take me from the airport to my hotel, or to a convention center, or to a restaurant. Taxi drivers are often immigrants with interesting personal histories and unusual cultural backgrounds.

I ask them how long they’ve been in America, how they chose which city to live in, and what they like best about where they live. Of course, I also ask them for advice on good local restaurants and any special attractions they’d recommend to a visitor.

I’ve had some great experiences on my travels, thanks to the advice of taxi drivers!

On one trip about ten years ago, I was making conversation with the taxi driver, asking him my usual questions about how he came to live where he lived. Then I asked him a hypothetical question: “If you could live anywhere in the world-and if money was no object-where would you live?”

Without hesitating even for a second, he replied, “I live in my heart. So it really doesn’t matter where my body lives. If I am happy inside, then I live in paradise, no matter where my residence is.”

I felt humbled and a little foolish for my question. Of course he was right-happiness is an inside job. He had reminded me of something I already knew, but had forgotten. If you can’t find happiness inside yourself, you’ll never find it in the outside world, no matter where you move. Wherever you go, there you are. You take yourself with you.

Sales 101 (Listening) and Thought(s) for the Week (of Christmas)

Posted on December 19, 2010 under Attitude Adjusters.

Listening 102*

I talked about listening back on the 12-12-10, but I really didn’t give you any tools to try as you strive to become a better listener.

Well, here’s one you can consider beginning tomorrow:  after the person to whom you are speaking is finished, pause and breathe.  Initially, the gap between when he finishes and you respond will seem like an eternity;  in actuality, it will amount to only a fraction of a second.

Too many times we aren’t really listening; we’re just waiting (impatiently) for our chance to talk.  What’s the rush?  Are you really worried that you won’t get your turn (to talk)?

All it takes to become a better listener is patience, practice and the commitment to improve  –  not that complicated.

So beginning tomorrow, give it a try  — with family, friends, co-workers, prospects, clients:  breathe before you respond.  In many cases the person you’re speaking with with follow your example and begin listening to you with more respect and attention.

Thought for the Week #1 (from Oren Arnold) and #2 and #3 (compliments of Charles Dickens)

To your enemy, forgiveness.
To an opponent, tolerance.
To a friend, your heart.
To a customer, service.
To all, charity.
To every child, a good example.

To yourself, respect.

It was always said of him, that he knew how to keep Christmas well, if any man alive possessed the knowledge. May that be truly said of us, and all of us! And so, as Tiny Tim observed, God Bless Us, Every One!”    I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all year.

Remember:  drama drains, uncompromising integrity counts, value loyalty (give it, respect it, reward it), your health is your wealth, life is short, over communicate, turn away bad business, believe in yourself, turn fear into focus, and always remember to pay it forward.

Thanks for being here (and supporting me throughout 2010); have a wonderful Holiday and a very Merry Christmas!!!!!

There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror,And noticed she had only three hairs on her head.’Well,’ she said, ‘I think I’ll braid my hair today.’ So she did and she had a wonderful day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror And saw that she had only two hairs on her head.’H-M-M,’ she said, ‘I think I’ll part my hair down the middle today.’
So she did and she had a grand day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed That she had only one hair on her head. ‘Well,’ she said, ‘today I’m going to wear my hair in a pony tail.’
So she did, and she had a fun, fun day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and Noticed that there wasn’t a single hair on her head. ‘YAY!’ she exclaimed. ‘I don’t have to fix my hair today!

Be kinder than necessary, For everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
Live simply,
Love generously,
Care deeply,
Speak kindly,
Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass……………………………………………It’s about learning to dance in the rain.

It’s not what you gather, but what you scatter that tells what kind of life you have lived.

Thought for the Week

Posted on June 14, 2010 under Attitude Adjusters.

”People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”

Sales Reminders 235-242

  • Always strive to put yourself in your customers ‘shoes’.
  • Agree to disagree; you don’t always have to be right, but you do need to make things work.
  • There will be bumps in every one’s journey
  • Those who are good at excuses are seldom good for much else
  • Remember, there is never enough time to do everything, but always time to do the tasks that have the greatest impact on your career.
  • Your attitude is the difference.
  • Make time for YOU.
  • Make a concerted  effort to avoid negative people.
  • Have a great week, pay it forward, learn something new, sort out your priorities, get rid of excuses, and go sell something.
